Meet the Doctors
Dr. Alexandria Young, DVM
Dr. Alexandria Young's dedication to animals stems from a lifelong passion and a deep respect for both science and compassion—values instilled by her parents. Growing up, she was inspired by her father's career as a dedicated neuro-radiologist and her mother's profound kindness toward all living creatures, such as when her mother once stopped traffic to rescue an injured American Robin. These experiences, combined with her childhood fascination with dinosaurs and later love for animals of all kinds, shaped Dr. Young’s path toward veterinary medicine.
Her journey into animal care began with volunteering at shelters and riding horses alongside her mother. During her senior year of high school, she joined her father in assisting with a procedure on an orangutan at the Great Ape Trust of Iowa—a defining moment that solidified her passion for the human-animal bond.
Dr. Young earned her Bachelor of Science in Zoology with a pre-veterinary concentration from North Carolina State University (Go Wolfpack!) and worked as a veterinary technician for 2.5 years before attending Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona, where she graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2019. Though an Iowa native, Dr. Young has long considered Arizona a second home and has been proudly serving the valley community for six years, first in Avondale and now in Sun City West.
With a focus on internal medicine, dentistry, chronic pain management, and palliative/end-of-life care, Dr. Young believes that every pet's life is precious from its first breath to its last. She is passionate about supporting the human-animal bond and fostering a collaborative care team that includes her, her team, and her clients. Dr. Young is committed to creating as many joyful, loving moments as possible for pets and their families throughout their shared journey.
Dr. Aletha Moody, DVM
Dr. Moody is the newest veterinarian at Sun City West Animal Hospital. She grew up on a goat farm in a small Michigan town, where her love for animals and medicine began at an early age. Caring for a variety of animals sparked her curiosity about veterinary medicine and set her on the path to becoming a veterinarian.
She earned dual bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Anthropology from Central Michigan University before moving to Arizona in 2014 to pursue her veterinary degree at Midwestern University. During her time in vet school, she developed a strong passion for providing compassionate, high-quality care to animals of all kinds. After graduating in 2019, she began her career dedicated to improving the health and well-being of her patients while building lasting relationships with their owners.
When she’s not caring for her patients, Dr. Moody stays busy with her two daughters and her four-legged family members. In her rare moments of free time, she enjoys reading, fish-keeping, and taking advantage of Arizona’s cooler months to spend time outdoors. Whether at work or home, her commitment to animals and their families remains at the heart of everything she does.
Dr. Michele Johnson, DVM
Dr Johnson grew up around large and small animals in North Dakota. She received her Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Mary. During that time she joined the military and enjoyed 16 years as a medical officer in the Army Reserve. She spent years working miscellaneous jobs to include being a paramedic and traveling the United States selling asphalt equipment. In her 30's she decided to fulfill her dream and become a vet. She graduated from Colorado State Veterinary College of Medicine in 2004. She and her husband Tim have two sons Keeler and Spencer and a daughter Savannah. She has also recently become a Grandma to her beautiful granddaughter Aspen. They share their home with many furry family members (11 to be exact) and have also fostered many animals. Helping animals lead healthy and happy lives has, and always will be her passion.
